Unveiling the Benefits
-
Neurofeedback may help regulate brainwave patterns associated with anxiety, promoting a sense of calm and relaxation.
-
By addressing neural dysregulation, this therapy has the potential to alleviate symptoms of depression and enhance overall mood.
-
Individuals with attention difficulties, such as ADHD, may experience improved concentration and focus as a result of low-energy neurofeedback.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that aims to normalize the central nervous system and brain function by using EEG (electroencephalogram) signals to monitor brain waves and provide corresponding feedback to the brain. It involves specialized computer software and an EEG machine to send signals mimicking natural brain activity, which helps strengthen healthy neural pathways while disrupting problematic ones. In short, it is brain wave training, a tool for the brain to directly learn flexibility, mental control, and increased stability. Additionally, the process triggers the body to produce neurotransmitters and hormones such as serotonin, GABA, dopamine, and endorphins associated with relaxation and repair. Over a series of sessions, we train our brains to use healthy pathways and to keep our neurotransmitters in regulation, thus keeping our nervous system in a state of rationalization and peace.

Low-energy neurofeedback therapy has shown to be an effective approach for individuals of all age groups and has shown benefits for peak performance and various conditions, including anxiety/ panic attacks, depression, PTSD, ADHD, insomnia, anger, OCD, brain fog, executive functioning, Lyme Disease, pharmaceutical-related effects, chronic pain, addictions, migraines, tics / involuntary muscle movement, and more.

• Monitoring and Stimulus: Unlike traditional neurofeedback devices that only monitor brainwaves, Unalome’s neurofeedback device both monitors and provides stimulus to help achieve optimal impact.
• Use of Low-Intensity Pulses: Unalome’s technology uses low-intensity pulses of energy through several small electrodes placed on the head. The energy used is very small.
• Faster Results: Because Unalome’s device both monitors and impacts brain waves, clients frequently feel results faster and achieve stable improvements in fewer sessions than with other forms of neurofeedback.• Imperceptibility: Unalome’s neurofeedback is imperceptible to the client and requires no conscious effort.
• Image-Based Evidence: Unalome’s neurofeedback is the first technology demonstrating effectiveness using image-based evidence.
• Versatility: Low-energy neurofeedback is safe, painless, non-invasive, and beneficial for both adults and children. It is increasingly used for brain-related issues like anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, and numerous other disorders. -
Unalome’s neurofeedback is non-invasive, FDA-approved, and 100% safe. There is nothing that may cause harm to you by having neurofeedback. It is not a medical procedure and is rather a retraining of the brain and nervous system through a micro-level of energy equivalent to 5 billionth of an AA battery. There are a few different types of neurofeedback systems out there, and the system used at Unalome Counseling & Wellness has no to minimal side effects. For people who may receive a session that is a little too strong, they may experience very mild and short-lived side effects such as dizziness, nausea, headache, irritability, or trouble sleeping. These mild responses usually last only a few hours or so. Similar to homeopathy and other subtle energy-based healing approaches, neurofeedback might sometimes trigger a temporary exacerbation of previously experienced symptoms as part of the process of the underlying condition being resolved. Clients participate in this process by letting their practitioner know at each visit how they have responded since the last training session. Protocols can be selected to tailor the feedback to each individual at different points in their recovery.
-
Unalome Counseling & Wellness advises clients to inform their prescribing physician about their participation in their neurofeedback program, as some medications might affect the therapeutic benefits of low-energy neurofeedback therapy. While the therapy may reduce the need for medication over time, discontinuing medication should only be done under medical supervision. Collaboration with physicians is encouraged to adjust medication dosages as needed. Neurofeedback aims for long-term benefits in attention, impulse control, academic achievement, and social adjustment, often reducing the need for medication or allowing for lower dosages. Although certain medications may slow down the training effects of neurofeedback, it is not necessary to discontinue existing medications in order to do neurofeedback. It's important for clients taking medication to be closely monitored by their physician.
-
Absolutely! Neurofeedback is likely a suitable option for you. Unlike targeting specific symptoms, neurofeedback works by identifying and disrupting unhealthy neural pathways, addressing a wide range of symptoms in each session. Clients often experience improvement in various areas simultaneously, including sleep, energy levels, emotional well-being, and even physical symptoms like numbness, gastrointestinal issues, high blood pressure, migraines, and more.
-
During a neurofeedback session with Unalome, you can expect to be greeted by a professional who will address any questions or concerns before beginning the therapy. The session starts with prepping your head with a gel to ensure optimal electrode placement. Then, electrodes are strategically placed on your head by the professional. The therapy itself is passive, allowing you to relax and engage in activities like reading or listening to music. There's no need for active mental focus as the therapy takes effect. Sessions typically last around 30-45 minutes.
-
After a neurofeedback session, it's common to feel tired as your brain adjusts and opens up new pathways, signaling that the therapy is effectively addressing maladaptive patterns. Many clients experience immediate relief from anxiety, feeling relaxed, energized, focused, and less stressed. Even sensations of localized pressure or fatigue indicate a positive response from your brain and nervous system. These sensations typically subside and are followed by noticeable improvement. Neurofeedback training is generally pleasant, and results are often noticed immediately. Ultimately, the training leads to a changed brainwave state and improved ability for the brain to regulate itself for higher, more flexible functioning.
-
The majority of clients typically experience positive changes within the first 1-3 sessions of low-energy neurofeedback therapy. To solidify these benefits, a course of 12-24 sessions is recommended. Following this initial course, a personalized maintenance plan is discussed, which may involve additional sessions every 6-8 weeks for high-performing individuals. However, because every individual is unique with different symptoms, durations, and severity levels, it's challenging to determine the exact number of sessions needed. At Unalome, your sustained cognitive health and well-being are prioritized, and each client's progression is tailored accordingly.
-
When starting neurofeedback, some opt for two sessions per week initially to accelerate progress, while others with milder symptoms may choose once-weekly sessions. After a few weeks, sessions typically continue once weekly without further spacing. As symptoms improve and clients feel better, sessions may be extended to every two weeks, followed by reevaluation. Depending on progress, sessions may eventually be discontinued if the brain and nervous system are adequately "trained," or spacing between sessions may be further extended.
